Pranayama is the conscious, deliberate regulation of the breath replacing unconscious patterns of breathing. It is possible only after a reasonable mastery of asana practice
Inhale slowly and smoothly through the nostrils.
Slightly constrict the back of your throat.
Exhale slowly through your nose or mouth.
Pause in between the exhale and inhale.
Inhale slowly and smoothly through the nostrils.
Slightly constrict the back of your throat.
Exhale slowly through your nose or mouth.
Pause in between the exhale and inhale.
Inhale slowly and smoothly through the nostrils.
Slightly constrict the back of your throat.
Exhale slowly through your nose or mouth.
Pause in between the exhale and inhale.

Be sure to listen to your body during all of these practices. Pranayama practices are best done on an empty stomach. If you feel light-headed in any way, take a pause for a few minutes while breathing naturally. When the discomfort passes, try another round, taking it slower and with less intensity.
